Privacy & Terms

Effective October 1, 2026

Short version: your audio never leaves your phone, there are no accounts or ads, and WhichBeep is a helpful tool — not a safety device.

Privacy

Your microphone
WhichBeep asks for the microphone only after you tap to allow it. The sound is measured in your browser, moment to moment, and is never recorded, saved, or sent anywhere. Leaving the listening screen turns the microphone off.
Your rooms and results
The room names you pick and your results live in the page address on your device. WhichBeep keeps no copy. If you share a results link, the room names go with it.
No accounts, no cookies, no ads
There is nothing to sign up for. WhichBeep itself sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser.
Visit counts
Vercel Web Analytics counts page visits without cookies, so we can see which guides people find useful. It records the page, not the room names or results in its address, and it does not follow you to other sites. Vercel hosts the site and, like any host, processes the technical details needed to deliver a page.
Links to other sites
The results page links to batteries on Amazon. As an Amazon Associate, WhichBeep earns from qualifying purchases. If you follow that link, or the tip jar, or a share button, that site's own privacy policy applies — Amazon, for example, may set cookies to credit the purchase.
Email
If you write to hello@whichbeep.com, your address is used only to reply.
Children
WhichBeep is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone.

Terms of use

A helper, not a safety device
WhichBeep is a free informational tool, provided as is. It does not replace your detectors, testing them, or the manufacturer's instructions.
Measurements can be wrong
Echoes, background noise, open doors and phone microphones all vary. Confirm the result at the detector itself before you replace anything.
Your manual wins
The guides follow manufacturer documentation, but your model's manual is the authority. If they disagree, follow the manual.
Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, WhichBeep and its author are not liable for any loss or damage that comes from using the site or relying on what it says.

If an alarm is sounding continuously, or a carbon monoxide alarm is sounding at all, do not use this site: get everyone outside and call 911 from outside.

Changes and contact

If any of this changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top moves. Questions go to hello@whichbeep.com. More about who runs WhichBeep is on the About page.

WhichBeep is not a substitute for regular smoke detector maintenance. Kidde asks you to test your alarms weekly and to replace batteries at least once a year.
